Hi Jan,Sorry for the trouble with Snagit. It sounds like the version of Snagit that is being run might be coming from the DMG that was downloaded even though it's in the Applications folder. Just to clarify, can you try these steps for me?1) Exit Snagit from running2) From this screen, drag the 'Snagit' icon onto the 'Applications' icon3) Close the DMG window4) Open a new Finder window5) Once Snagit has been again copied to the Applications folder, in the left sidebar of Finder, locate the Snagit DMG item and click the 'Unmount' button6) Now open the Applications folder and double-click the Snagit iconLet me know if this doesn't address the problem.
Sometimes the application gets launched from the DMG which is technically a different location from the Applications directory. Again, apologies for the trouble with Snagit.Thanks!Jason.
Hi JasonThanks for your reply. The thing is, I was already running Snagit 3.3.6.

When the program notified me to upgrade to 3.3.7 it showed me a dialog to login (as I'm not running as root). After that I ran into issues.
So I guess there's something wrong with the update process. However, I uninstalled the version downloaded 3.3.7 from your website and reinstalled everything. It seems to be working now.I never had those issues when Snagit was still in the app store. So please verify your update process in order to avoid so much hassle just to upgrade your product!Kind regardsJan. I'm going to print out the results of three files (long) from the activity monitor. Hi Mark,Thanks for posting the samples of the Snagit processes. In most cases, it does look like the Snagit apps are being launched from the proper location, but I'm not clear on when you're seeing the error message?
The samples say that Snagit 4.1.3 is the version that is running, are you running the Activity Monitor action while that error dialog is still visible (just wanted to clarify)? The reason Time Machine comes into play sometimes is the system will inadvertently launch the first Snagit it finds, so occasionally it'll pick a backed up version of Snagit.app which is located elsewhere and since it's not in /Applications, the error message will appear. Similarly, if Snagit is launched directly from the DMG after download (instead of dragging it to Applications), we'll get the error. Thanks for your help and patience with this bug! Hi Mark,I think I figured out the issue. It appears that the system is indeed launching Snagit.app from a very non-standard location.Try the following:- Open Finder.app- Choose the 'Go-Go to Folder.'
Menu- Paste in the following path: /private/var/folders/yv/w3fhl5x147bdtygtxrmjf03c0000gn/T/AppTranslocation/D6BF80E3-7C0F-4E40-9D3C-60E88CE246FD/d- Click the 'Go' buttonThere should be a Snagit.app file in that folder. If you go ahead and move that to your Applications directory, Snagit should start launching correctly.Let me know if you have any questions. @Mark, looks like you have a very strange, unique issue with running SnagIT 4 on Sierra.I'd suggest this:. Download and install a app uninstall tool like AppDelete.
Quit Snagit from all locations (the app, the popout, the Apple menu). Use AppDelete to remove the SnagIT app and all related files.
Restart your Mac, but don't start any apps. Download and install the latest ver of SnagIT from TechSmith.com. Open your Applications folder in the Finder and confirm that the SnagIT.app file is there. If NOT, STOP here, and post back here for further help from TechSmith. Restart your Mac, but don't start any apps.
Launch SnagIT by double-clicking on the SnagIT.app file in your Applications folder, and try a simple capture.Report back here on how that works out for you.BTW, in the future, if you need to post a lot of data (more than about 10 lines), please put the lines in a text file, zip the file, and upload here. Thanks.Good luck. I am very interested in your case because I'm still running macOS El Capitan, and don't plan to upgrade to Sierra, or High Sierra, until I'm sure that all of my essential apps will run properly.
